I've been thinking a lot about how to engender more community participation in our forums. Rather than have people come in and ask one-off some questions that no one else reads, we could have each tutorial and doc be a focal point of discussion.
Zendesk does this to some degree in their own forums. They will write something on a topic. Then users will post questions and problems around that topic on that page. When I post something on a page, then I am automatically subscribed to that thread and I get e-mail when someone else posts. This makes me more likely to come back in and sometimes answer someone else's question.
